Arriva & Transport Malta ignoring Gozitan students' concerns
The Gozo Universtiy Group has said in a statement today that with the news of the changes in the Arriva schedule, the Group thinks that “Arriva and Transport Malta are being insensitive about Gozitan students.”
“GUG’s proposals have been ignored in introducing a direct route from Cirkewwa to University / Mater Dei. Stationed at University. The introduction of this route is essential not only for Gozitan Students but also Gozitans who need to go to Mater Dei, as it was the previous 45 route.
“This was clearly proved in a report done by GUG and further sustained in the survey GUG carried out among Gozitan Students, were 77% of the Gozitan Students use the public transport service and 72% believe that the public transport reform did not improve this route.
“The fact that Gozitan students and Gozitans residents have to buy two day-tickets when going to Malta because the day ticket in Gozo is not valid in Malta and vice-versa, is another issue that Arriva ignored to explain,” GUG said.
It continued, “furthermore Transport Malta has ignored the various requests by Gozitan Students who on a daily basis are exposed to danger when crossing the Birkirkara By-Pass to go to University because there are not adequate pedestrian measures.”
GUG concluded by saying that “it is willing to meet and discuss with both entities to find immediate solutions and measures for the benefit of Gozitan Students.”
