The Executive

Ryan was born on 16th November 1988, he is from the island of Gozo and currently reading an MA in Islands and Small States. In 2010 he read an MA in Diplomacy under the patronage of President Emeritus and Prof. Guido De Marco and in 2009 graduated in BA Hons in Geography from the University of Malta. He has been active in the youth field and formed part in various organizations and entities.

At the moment he is Vice-President of the National youth council, President of the Civil Society with the Malta Council for Social and Economic Development (MCESD), Youths Representative in the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF), President of the Gozo University Group (GUG), Manager of Environment, Health and Education within YEL (Young Entrepreneurship and Leadership), Assistant Secretary of UHM Youths and International and National Officer of MKSU (Moviment Kattoliku Studenti Universitarji)

He is also active on an international level as he has represented Malta and the European Youth Forum, as a Youth Ambassador, in the two opening ceremonies of the EU-China Year of Youth 2011 held in Brussels and Beijing, at the Forum on Youth and Sustainable Development in July and in August at the University Games and the forum on Youth participation in Policy Making.

Anthony was born on 3rd May 1988, and like his fellow colleagues in GUG, is also a Gozitan. He is currently reading an MA in Maltese (by research). In 2010 he acquired a Post Graduate Diploma in Translating and in 2009 he graduated in BA Hons in Maltese and Communication Studies form the University of Malta.
 
He has been a member of the GUG executive for over 4 years now, and has always been active in organizations throughout his youth. He formed part of the students council at the Secondary and also at Sixth form. During his membership in GUG, he was a pioneer in the making of the first survey conducted by GUG. The aim of this survey was to study various aspects that Gozitan students enquire throughout their university life such as accomodation, transport, expenses etc.
 
Anthony has also been involved in numourous activities held in Gozo, be it drama, singing, local festa village and so on. During his leisure time, he enjoys travelling, reading, cooking and also plays football with a local team.

Joelene is a 21 year old, 4th year Accountancy Honours student at the University of Malta. She has recently finished the B Commerce course in Management and Accountancy. Her future aspiration is to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and eventually auditor and open up her own business. Her interests include animals, reading and writing and also fashion. She has taken part in various beauty contests and awarded Miss Gozo and Miss Solidarity 2007, and Miss Personality 2009. Also she has managed to collect a substantial amount of money for people with special needs this money being used for new wheelchairs and other equipment. This is the second year for Joelene as part of GUG, first as an Assistant Financial Officer and now as General Secretary.

Charlene Cauchi is a twenty-one year old student currently reading for a Bachelor of Education in English and Italian at the University of Malta. She is a member of GUG and has been active in her role as an Education Officer throughout these past two years. She is also a member of the Laudate Pueri choir at the parish basilica of St George in Victoria and also a member of the Alegria Academia de Flamenco. She holds many interests, such as languages and literature, art, music, travel and cultures. In her leisure time she enjoys drawing, reading, singing and dancing flamenco. Her ambition in life is to pursue her dreams and achieve her desired goals.

Maria Sultana is an eighteen year old student starting a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics. She is very fond of the performing arts, especially dancing.  In fact, she has been training in tap and modern jazz for the last 10 years.  Her leisure activities include reading , travelling and exploring new cultures, especially through student exchanges.

Besides, she is also active in various local organizations, including Oratorju Don Bosco where she is part of the Youth Committee and  recently also in E.R.R.C as a first aider. During her post-secondary education at Sir M. A. Refalo, she was also part of the GUG’s sub-committee and co-founded a student body named ‘Students’ Voice’.   She believes in keeping a positive attitude towards life and hopes that her role as HR Officer helps enhance students’ experience of tertiary education.
Maria Sultana   -   Human Resources

Sabrina is a 20-year old student, currently following a Bachelors degree in ICT specialising in Computer Information Systems. From a very young age she showed a huge interest into music. In fact she plays the guitar and the piano, the latter of which she has completed the studies in both Music Literacy and Music Performance with the Trinity College London. Apart from being a member of GUG, she is also very active in the community of Xaghra where she forms part of the parish choir 'Voci Angeliche' and is also a member of the Xaghra Scout Group where she holds the positions of Assistant Scout Leader and Public Relations Officer.

Travelling is an important aspect of her life and in fact she has also represented the Scout Association of Malta in various activities abroad including the Euro-Mini-Jam in Iceland in 2010 and the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in 2011 and will also be taking part in Roverway in Finland in 2012. She was also the Secretary and Assistant PRO of the Organisation Committee for a youth exchange held in Gozo in 2009 between scouts from Xaghra, Turkey, Portugal and Ireland.

Keith was born on 30th November 1992, in Gozo. He is a 19 year old, second year student, reading a Bachelor’s degree in ICT at the University of Malta. This is the second year for Keith as part of GUG, first as an Assistant Multimedia Coordinator and now as Multimedia Officer. Personal interests include sports and games

David is one of the last additions to our executive. Born on the 29th of August, 1990, he is currently doing an Honours in Marketing, after successfully completing the Bachelor of Commerce Degree last year. Apart from the academics, he also studied classical music in his younger years, where he learned to play both the piano and the guitar. 
An extremely outgoing person, David enjoys going out a lot with an extreme passion for clubbing and partying. Travelling is a way of life for him, and when he manages to put some money aside, it will surely be devoted to a holiday somewhere. Other interests on his side include, hitting the gym, football, modelling, and of course all that has to do with the kitchen, a new found skill.

Marc, studying at The University of Malta, has taken interrest in joining GUG as Event Officer. He has taken up this position due to his initial involvement in such matters. Being born in Gozo, having followed his education and lifestyle on the island - having grown up around its 'peculiar' environment - has aroused in him the want to contribute to a healthy and worthy future for the island.He takes this position as an opportunity to give out and offer what he can for Gozitan youths.

Concentrating on the amelioration of Gozitan students' situation in Malta and Gozo, GUG is not just about event planning for him; but also other criteria that need looking after. Hence, he enjoys taking part in such motivations with the rest of the group.
