GUG Meeting with the Minister for Gozo

The GUG deemed it an intrinsic meeting that with the Minister for Gozo, since various, not to say all social aspects concerning the Gozitans, including that of education fall within it.

Attending the same meeting was an ADT official, since transport problems tend to be one of the aspects that hinder the Gozitan student’s educational experience within the University. Among the points that were raised were the following:

  1. The fact that the 450 bus and ferry timetable are not always compatible;
  2. The possibility of introducing a totally direct service from Cirkewwa to Msida and vice versa on Mondays and Fridays respectively;
  3. The inconstant charge on bulgy luggage and the limited number of luggage that can be boarded.

Such requests were accepted, yet it was deemed that for them to be implemented we need a concrete data, which can be most reliably achieved through a widespread survey among the Gozitan students. This would enlist varying questions, including above all the relevant ones concerning transport.

Following the transport demands, we proceeded with our exam issue. The idea of having exams being held in Gozo on an optional basis is one of our most salient issues of this year, since we are fully aware of the hassle that such a period tends to impinge on our fellow students. We are currently attending meetings with the rector and pro-rector with the hope of being given the ultimate go ahead.

We also mentioned the possibility of having a number of notice boards held at the Gozo University Centre, so that students would avoid having to cross over for the simple reason of checking timetable amendments.

Another meeting is soon due, so that we can check out on what has been achieved so far.
