GUG Reaction on Major Budget Points
GUG welcomes the further investments planned for the increment in number of courses given at University of Gozo. GUG thinks that this is a positive incentive to increase the opportunities for those people who wish to pursue their studies and a positive implementation to promote the potential of the Gozo University.
Regarding the W&E rise in utility bills: GUG is aware that due to lack of a registration system in which the apartments rented can be registered in the name of the tenants (the students) rather than the actual owner. This implies that the same students cannot benefit from the subsidies mentioned by the government in the Budget. GUG therefore requests that a registration system should be introduced in such a way that Gozitan students can benefit from the same subsidies as Maltese students/families do.
With respect to the Transport Reform, GUG feels the need for further information, as from a Gozitan student's aspect, this reform could mean higher prices to pay, but no actual benefit. Apart from this, GUG is also asking for an introduction of a Student Card from which all students can benefit.
Finally, GUG strongly requests information about the New Rental Reform, due to the fact that this new incentive is bound to affect a considerable number of students directly.
